Hey…just stumbled upon your blog by chance and its rather interesting. I hail from Melbourne and would love to get some info about the yarra valley vineyards. are u currently based in sydney?
I love your website, its so good to see you as a someliere (spelling!) making inroads into the wine industry! Good luck to you.
I have my sons birthday coming up and I’m trying to have lots of indian bites – what wine do you recommend for the english summer. Something that will compliment a bbq as well as indian puddings with cardanom.
Thanks for your comments. It’s quite tricky finding wine that will match both bbq’d Indian food and sweet desserts with cardamom. I hazard you would have to serve different wines.
I always say the best wine for an English summer is rosé. Given the food that you’ll be serving, I would say try and find a fruity rosé that is light to medium-bodied. If you go into any good wine shop, the store folk should be able to point you in the right dreiction with this. Some rosé’s from South Australia or California are quite affordable, not too complicated (because, let’s face it, the flavours inthe food will be complex enough) and taste rather delicious on a blamy English summer afternoon.
If you’re after something a bit heavier, then Viognier and Viognier blends from southern France or the Rhone Valley are quite pleasant and wonderfully aromatic and will be quite a nice complement to the food.
For desserts, generic Sauternes or dessert/late harvest Semillon are able to stand up to the sweetness of Indian sweets.
